What is the Job Centre?

The Job Coach, sources work experience and employment opportunities for service users of the MooreHaven Centre.

What is Work Experience?

Work Experience allows a service user of MooreHaven to sample different types of work.   Based on this job sampling our service user can then make an educated decision on what type of employment they would like to pursue.

Areas that our service users are interested in sampling include: Catering (kitchen and restaurant floor) office work, shop work (clothes and grocery) manufacturing etc..

How long will a Work Experience last for?

A work experience usually lasts for a set period of one to two months.  This may occasionally be extended.  A reason for extending a work experience would be that the service user feels that they still have more to learn in their work experience area or the employer feels that they can show the service user more if the placement is extended.  A service user usually attends a work experience placement for between one to three day weekly.

What is Supported Employment?

"Supported Employment" is paid employment in an integrated setting with ongoing supports in the open labour market.

Paid Employment:

Service users placed by the Job Resource Centre in paid employment must receive at least the minimum wage.

Integrated Setting:

Supported employment acknowledges the right of people with disabilities to integration and inclusion in the open labour market.

Ongoing Supports:

The Job Coach will provide ongoing support to both the service user and the employer.

What Supports are available?

The Job Coach will provide ongoing support to both the service user and the employer for the duration of the work experience / employment placement.  This support is available for as long as necessary and takes the form of on the job training., onsite visits and telephone calls.
